Litspiration Challenge 3: Theme

Litspiration Challenge 3 is challenging our abilities to analyze the theme of "The House of the Scorpion". In this project, we had to find the main theme of the book and show it in a project of our choice.

DISCRIMINATION IS LEARNED

Intentional Choices:
LEGO:
This represents how normal people are similar to these materials. They can be easily influenced to change and move by an outside force. The idea of predetermined fate is undermined by the influences one may face during their lifetime such as their circumstance and other people.

Different House Styles:
Our choice of creating different style houses shows us that our theme is universal as its influence is not confined by limitations such as time or space. Discrimination is learned because people are taught to avoid, fear, and patronize certain types of people by their elderly or parents.

Video Format:
A photo is a freeze frame and typically the start of a story while a video is usually the story itself. By putting our message in a video format we believe it emphasizes a sense of time. This sense of time represents how discrimination is an ongoing story. It has its own beginning, middle, and end.

The Yellow Building:

Yellow is a color that is representative of cowardice and deceit and this is what we believe what discrimination is. Expressing an immature dislike for a group of individuals due to it being a “lazy” way to get to “know” an individual. This is reminiscent of a fear for social interaction.
